Mary McJunkin Gray Gift Establishes Endowment Funds

CAMC Foundation and WVU Health Sciences Center gratefully recognize Mrs. Mary McJunkin Gray for her gift establishing endowment funds in honor of her late husband, Howard Phillip McJunkin. The endowment funds support the collaborative relationship of CAMC and WVU in providing top tier medical care and medical education in our region.

The Foundation will administer the endowment for the benefit of the departments of pediatrics and internal medicine of the WVU Health Sciences Center-Charleston Division. The pediatric endowment fund and the internal medicine endowment fund are both dedicated to the development and retention of excellent faculty within the Charleston Division of the WVU School of Medicine. In the department of pediatrics, Myra Chiang, MD, pediatric nephrologist, was recognized in May 2008 as the inaugural recipient of the Distinguished Professor of Pediatric Subspecialty Care funded by the Howard P. and Mary N. McJunkin Endowment.

Mary McJunkin Gray has long supported numerous charitable causes in Charleston and, for many years, served as a volunteer in the recovery room at CAMC. The honoree of her gift, Howard (Mac) McJunkin, was a devoted husband, father and civic leader. Following graduation from MIT and service in the Navy during WWII, he returned to his beloved hometown to raise his family. Prior to his death in 1975, he provided financial support and leadership to numerous charitable organizations and community improvement efforts, including service as chairman of the Charleston Urban Renewal Authority during its vitally important early years. In his work at McJunkin Corporation, he was keenly interested in the well-being of the companyıs employees and took great pride in the employment and other benefits the company brought to the communities in which it was located.

This gift, dedicated to sustaining and elevating both the quality of health care and the quality of life for residents of Charleston and the surrounding region, would have been very gratifying to the honoree and represents a fitting and enduring recognition of his service to the community.
